Homemade 2-phase makeup remover: quick and easy recipe with 4 ingredients

The 2-phase makeup remover is ideal for gently and effectively removing makeup from the skin. As its name suggests, it is composed of two phases: the aqueous phase (water or hydrosol) and the oily phase (vegetable oil). It's a really easy recipe because you only need to mix 4 ingredients together, and therefore very fast! I share here a formula that you can easily customize with the ingredients adapted to your skin.

Homemade 2-phase makeup remover: quick and easy recipe with 4 ingredients

Ingredients for a homemade 2 phase makeup remover

vegetable oil

vegetable oil

In addition to being excellent skin care, vegetable oils are particularly interesting for make-up removal. They make it possible to take off makeup (mainly composed of fatty substances) very effectively without having to attack the skin by dint of rubbing!

It's up to you to choose the most suitable oil according to your skin type. There are many more, but here are a few suggestions:

  • jojoba vegetable oil: for all skin types,
  • sweet almond vegetable oil: for dry skin,
  • vegetable oil of apricot kernels: ideal in case of dull complexion (avoid oily skin),
  • hazelnut vegetable oil: for combination with oily skin,
  • Avocado vegetable oil: for dry and mature skin.

You can also choose to use more than one. If you opt for very viscous castor oil, I advise you to mix it with another more fluid oil for a more pleasant application.

To avoid multiplying the products to buy, take the opportunity to choose an oil that will also serve as your care! For my version, I chose jojoba oil.

The hydrosol (or water)

The hydrosol

For the aqueous phase, we will use a hydrosol. It is the water resulting from the distillation of plants to create essential oils, it, therefore, contains active principles of the plant in small quantities. Unlike essential oils, hydrosols are very gentle and can be applied neat to the skin. You can use it as a toner for example (to be sprayed after cleansing the skin in the evening, or in the morning before your cream), or in masks example.

As with the oil, choose the one that best suits your needs:

  • rose hydrosol: ideal for mature skin,
  • lavender hydrosol: for sensitive, combination, and oily skin,
  • cornflower hydrosol: known for caring for the eye contour, it is also recommended for sensitive skin.

If you don't have any, you can also choose water for this phase.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E

Vitamin E plays the role of an antioxidant in this recipe and thus prevents the rancidity of fatty substances (here vegetable oil).

Isocide preservative

This preservative makes it possible to preserve products containing water for several months thanks to its antibacterial and antifungal properties.

How to use a 2 phase makeup remover?

At rest, the makeup remover is out of phase, it must be shaken well before each use. Pour it on a cotton pad or a washable makeup remover pad (which has the advantage of being reusable and softer for the skin) and gently remove the makeup from your skin. For the eyes, I advise you to place the makeup remover square on closed eyes for a few seconds to properly remove the mascara. You can then cleanse your skin and apply your other treatments.

For this version, I chose jojoba oil and lavender hydrosol (an ideal combination for combination to oily skin). After cleaning my skin, I spray some pure hydrosol on my face and I finish with a few drops of oil with aloe vera or my cream!
